Mount Drago

Ride the right dragon at the right moment.

Aim & setup

Score the most points while riding dragons up Mount Drago. This is not a race to finish first: the position of your dragon when scoring occurs is what matters.

The game contains ten dragons, 110 cards and a double-sided board. Each dragon has eleven cards: two each of values 1, 2, 4 and 5, and three of value 3. Dragon colours are not player colours.

  1. Use the board side for 2–3 or 4–5 players. Place all ten dragons on the starting space.
  2. Each player receives a face-up dragon card of a different colour. Its value does not matter: it shows which dragon that player rides.
  3. Shuffle the remaining cards, deal six to each player and place the rest face down as the draw pile.

At the table the youngest player starts, then turns proceed clockwise. Yucata uses the game's assigned starting player.

Your turn

1. Play a card and move a dragon

You must play exactly one card. Move the dragon of that colour forward by the card's value. You may move any dragon, including an opponent's. Any number of dragons may share a space. Movement beyond the final space is lost.

2. Determine your rider

  • An opponent rides that dragon: keep your current rider card; put the played card underneath it.
  • No opponent rides that dragon: put the played card on top of your rider pile. You now ride that dragon. If it was already yours, you stay on it.
  • Exception — an unridden dragon in last place: if it was in last place before moving, including tied for last, you may keep your old dragon or take the moved dragon. All dragons on the starting space are tied for last.
Each player rides exactly one dragon. Two players can never ride the same dragon. Make the rider choice before scoring.

3. Scoring

Scoring is triggered by where the moved dragon lands, even if nobody rides it. Every player uses the space occupied by their current dragon.

Blue · Small scoring

All riders whose dragons are on spaces worth 3 or less score the printed value. Other riders score nothing. The blue spaces themselves are worth 3 in a 2–3 player game and 2 in a 4–5 player game. The starting space is worth zero.

Green · Large scoring

Every rider scores the printed value of their dragon's space. The green spaces are worth 4, 7 and 8.

Red · Summit

A dragon entering any of the final four red spaces for the first time triggers large scoring. Moving it between red spaces does not trigger scoring again. Their values are 4, 2, 0 and −2.

Example: Your dragon stands on a 6. Moving an opponent onto a green 4 gives you 6 points and your opponent 4. Moving them onto a blue space instead gives you nothing because your 6 is above 3.

4. Discard and draw

You may discard any number of cards matching dragons already on a red summit space. You may also keep these cards and play them in a later turn.

  • No scoring: refill your hand to six cards.
  • Scoring: do not draw cards.
  • Empty hand: refill to six even after scoring.

When the draw pile runs out, shuffle the players' discarded cards into a new draw pile. Keep every face-up rider card on the table. This reshuffle rule is present in the German rulebook and also applies here.

Game end

When the third dragon reaches a red summit space, resolve its large scoring and end the game immediately. Do not finish the round or draw more cards. The player with the most points wins; tied players share the win.

Playing on Yucata

Click a highlighted hand card or a coloured destination circle to play its matching card. Cards sit in the empty sky at the top left of a sufficiently large board; smaller boards show them below. If a rider choice is possible, choose one of the two offered dragons. Afterwards, highlighted summit cards can be discarded individually. Use the standard Undo and Finish turn controls; drawing happens only when you confirm.

Click or focus a dragon for its rider and position. The player display shows each name, rider card, points and hand size. Log links highlight the relevant dragon; standard history and replay show each decision separately.

Legacy Yucata convention retained: a −2 loss is applied only if the resulting total is non-negative. This convention is not stated in the supplied rulebook. The corrected setup uses all 110 distinct cards and the draw pile is reshuffled when exhausted.

Tip: Moving an opponent can help you more than moving your own dragon. Low-value spaces score frequently; a high-value space only pays during large scoring. Time your moves around everyone's positions.
