Stone Age Game Board
Stone Age
Background & Game Goal

Each age has its special challenges. The Stone Age was shaped by the emergence of agriculture, the harvesting of essential resources, and the building of sturdy huts. Trade begins, civilization flourishes, and traditional abilities like skillful hunting are needed to feed the tribe.

The goal of each player is to master these challenges. There are multiple paths to victory. Choose your strategy and lead your tribe to prosperity.

Game Play Round
Each round has 3 phases: 1. Place workers, 2. Execute worker actions, 3. Feed the tribe.

1. Place workers on the game board

Start player begins. Clockwise, each player places 1 or more workers on exactly 1 location. No passing, no re-placing.

The start player begins and must place 1 or more workers on one location of their choice. Then the next player clockwise places 1 or more workers on one location. This continues until all players have placed all their workers on the board. The number of rings indicates how many workers a place can hold before becoming full. Passing is not permitted if legal placement is possible.

Capacity of Locations:

LocationAllowed Number of Workers
Tool MakerExactly 1 worker 1 worker.
Hut (Growth)Exactly 2 workers of the same player 2 workers2 workers.
Field (Agriculture)Exactly 1 worker 1 worker.
Hunting GroundAny number of workers of all players.
Forest, Clay Pit, Quarry, RiverUp to a total of 7 workers up to 7 workers across all players.
Civilization CardsOn each of the 4 displayed cards, exactly 1 worker 1 worker.
BuildingsOn each displayed building stack, exactly 1 worker 1 worker.

Rules for 2 or 3 Players:

  • With 2 and 3 players: Only 2 of the 3 village places (Tool maker, Hut, Field) may be occupied each round. The third remains completely blocked.
  • With 3 players: In the 4 resource locations (Forest, Clay Pit, Quarry, River), workers from at most 2 different players may be present.
  • With 2 players: In each resource location, only 1 player may place workers.

2. Use the actions of placed workers

Start player executes all their worker locations in any chosen order, then the next player follows.

The start player resolves all their occupied locations in any desired order. Used workers are immediately returned to the player board. Once finished, the next player takes their turn.

LocationAction / Effect
Tool Maker

The player takes 1 new tool tile or upgrades an existing one (1 → 2 → 3 → 4).
1 tool 2 tools 3 tools 4 tools Use: Each tool tile can be added 1× per round to any own dice roll (Hunt or Resources). A tool must be used in full value.

Hut

The player gains 1 additional worker worker from the general supply, available starting from next round (maximum 10 workers).

Field

Moves marker marker on the Agriculture track up by 1 space (maximum level 10), providing permanent food at round end.

Hunting Ground

Yield: Food Food (Divisor: 2).
Roll 1 die per placed worker. Add any number of available tools to the sum.
Food gained = Total sum / 2 (rounded down).

Resource Locations
(Forest, Clay Pit, Quarry, River)

Roll 1 die per worker placed, and optionally add tools:

ForestDivisor 3 → 1 Wood Wood per full 3 points
Clay PitDivisor 4 → 1 Clay Clay per full 4 points
QuarryDivisor 5 → 1 Stone Stone per full 5 points
RiverDivisor 6 → 1 Gold Gold per full 6 points
Civilization Cards

Pay 1 to 4 arbitrary resources (based on card slot 1–4 from right). Food cannot be used as payment.
Top half: Immediate benefit (resources, food, dice roll, single-use tools, victory points).
Bottom half: End game scoring (Culture symbols with green frame or multiplier figures with sand-colored background).

Buildings

Pay required resources into supply, immediately score the corresponding points on the scoring track, and reveal the next tile in the stack.

3. Feed the Tribe

Each worker requires 1 food. Agriculture gives free food. Missing food costs resources or 10 VP penalty.

Once all workers return to player boards, they must be fed:

Rule 1 Worker worker = 1 Food Food

Players automatically receive food equal to their Agriculture level. If food is insufficient, all remaining food is paid, and the remainder can be paid 1:1 using any resources (Wood, Clay, Stone, Gold).
If a player cannot or chooses not to pay resources, they immediately lose 10 Victory Points on the scoring track (-10 points).

The 36 Civilization Cards in Detail

Every civilization card is split into two halves: top is immediate benefit, bottom is final scoring.

CategoryCountImmediate Effect (Top Half)
Dice Selection 10 cards Buyer rolls dice equal to player count. Starting with buyer, each player drafts 1 die (in 2-player games, buyer drafts 1 die and the other player automatically receives the remaining die):
= Wood, = Clay, = Stone, = Gold, = +1 Tool, = +1 Agriculture.
Fixed Food 7 cards Take 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, or 7 food immediately from supply.
Fixed Resources 5 cards Take 1 Stone, 2 Stones, 1 Gold, or 1 Clay immediately.
Resources on Dice Roll 3 cards Roll 2 dice (tools allowed) → gain Gold, Wood, or Stone.
Victory Points 3 cards Advance 3 VP immediately on scoring track.
Single-Use Tools 3 cards +2, +3, or +4 single-use tool for any future dice roll.
Permanent Tool 1 card +1 Tool level immediately (as with Tool Maker).
Permanent Food 2 cards +1 Agriculture track step immediately.
2 Resources of Choice 1 card Take 2 arbitrary resources of choice (Wood, Clay, Stone, or Gold).
Extra Card 1 card Draw top civilization card from stack face-down for final scoring only.

The 28 Building Tiles in Detail

Buildings provide immediate VP equal to their stated value or the sum of resource values paid:

TypeCountCost & Victory Points
Fixed Resources (2 types) 9 tiles (1 each) Fixed 3 resources in 2 types → 10 to 16 VP.
Fixed Resources (3 types) 8 tiles (2 each) Fixed 3 resources in 3 types → 12 to 15 VP.
Variable Resources (4 items) 4 tiles Exactly 4 resources in 1, 2, 3, or 4 types → Sum of resource values (12–24 VP).
Variable Resources (5 items) 4 tiles Exactly 5 resources in 1, 2, 3, or 4 types → Sum of resource values (15–30 VP).
Free Choice Resources (1 to 7 items) 3 tiles 1 to 7 resources of any type → Sum of resource values (3–42 VP).
Game End & Final Scoring
Game ends on empty building stack or depleted cards. Final scoring: Culture Sets², Multipliers, 1 VP per resource.

The game ends in one of two ways:

  1. At start of round: Not enough civilization cards remain to fill all 4 slots. Game ends immediately.
  2. During a round: At least 1 building stack is exhausted. The round is completed through feeding phase.

Final Scoring:

CategoryCalculationExample
Culture Symbols (Green Frame)
(Writing, Pottery, Healing, Weaving, Music, Art, Transport, Sundial)
Each set of unique culture symbols is squared:
1 symbol = 1 VP
2 symbols = 4 VP
3 symbols = 9 VP
4 symbols = 16 VP
5 symbols = 25 VP
6 symbols = 36 VP
7 symbols = 49 VP
8 symbols = 64 VP
Duplicates form 2nd and 3rd sets.
5 unique symbols in set 1 + 2 in set 2 → 5×5 + 2×2 = 25 + 4 = 29 VP.
Farmer Farmers (Sand background) Number of farmers × Agriculture track level 3 farmers × Level 7 agriculture = 21 VP
Tool Maker Tool Makers (Sand background) Number of tool makers × Total value of all tools 2 tool makers × 6 tool points = 12 VP
Hut Builder Hut Builders (Sand background) Number of hut builders × Count of built buildings 4 hut builders × 5 buildings = 20 VP
Shaman Shamans (Sand background) Number of shamans × Total count of tribe workers 3 shamans × 8 workers = 24 VP
Remaining Resources Each leftover resource scores 1 VP. 4 Wood + 2 Gold = 6 VP

The player with the most Victory Points wins. Tiebreaker is highest sum of Agriculture level + Tools + Worker count.
