Build influence. Win majorities. Time your power.

The aim

Build majorities in the regions of Spain. Score points in regional evaluations and finish with the highest total. Your Grande marks your home region; it does not count as a Caballero. Equal final scores share the result.

Setting up

Each player starts with 7 Caballeros at court, 2 beside their Grande and 21 in the provinces. Randomly assign distinct home regions and a different region for the King. Each player has power cards 1–13. Shuffle the four action stacks separately and reveal one from each, plus the King card.

Rounds and power cards

Play nine rounds, or six rounds by skipping 1, 4 and 7. Evaluate the board after rounds 3, 6 and 9 in either version. The starting player plays a power card first; the others follow clockwise. No two players may play the same value in a round. From the second round onward, the player who acted last in the previous round starts bidding. Players then take their action turns from highest to lowest power card. Played power cards are unavailable until a special action retrieves them.

Your action turn

First recruit from the provinces: power 1 grants up to 6 Caballeros; 2–3 grant 5; 4–5 grant 4; 6–7 grant 3; 8–9 grant 2; 10–11 grant 1; 12–13 grant none. If the provinces are short, you may recall the missing Caballeros from the board, except from the King’s region or the Castillo. Choose one remaining action card. Perform its deployment and special action in either order. Complete one part before beginning the other. You may prevent the special action and deploy fewer Caballeros. The stack number is the deployment limit. Confirm the turn with the standard framework button.

The King’s region is protected

Deploy Caballeros from court only to regions adjacent to the King or into the Castillo, unless a special action explicitly permits other destinations. No Caballero, Grande or mobile scoreboard may enter or leave the King’s region. The King itself may move through the appropriate action. A sole leader in the King’s region receives a bonus of 2 points whenever that region is scored.

The Castillo and secret choices

Caballeros can be placed in the Castillo, but ordinary movement actions cannot take them out. Yucata keeps their counts visible. Before a general evaluation everyone secretly chooses one destination region other than the King’s region. Score the Castillo first, then move each player’s entire group into their chosen region, then score all nine regions. Secret choices stay hidden until every player has confirmed. A special Castillo scoring does not empty it.

Scoring majorities

A region’s scoreboard gives its first, second and third awards. With two players only the first award counts; with three players only the first two count. Players with no Caballeros receive nothing. A tied group drops one rank, regardless of its size, and the next group follows after that lowered rank. For example, counts 4/4/4/3 on a 5/3/1 scoreboard score 3/3/3/1. A sole leader gains 2 additional points if their Grande is there, and another 2 if the King is there. Tied leaders receive neither bonus. The first-place-only special action awards nothing to tied leaders.

Mobile scoreboards

The 8/4/0 and 4/0/0 boards replace the printed regional awards. A special action places or moves one scoreboard. They may be placed on the Castillo. They cannot share a region or enter or leave the King’s region. Special evaluations for particular point values use the current scoreboard.

Playing on Yucata

Veto cards are excluded; the second action stack therefore contains nine cards. Castillo counts remain visible. The card that removes one Caballero per player affects opponents only, matching the German wording. Names omit flags and ranks. Use the information buttons to open Bootstrap popovers, select highlighted pieces and destinations, and use the framework’s Undo, Redo and Finish turn controls. Revealing new round cards or resolving the final secret choice establishes an information boundary that cannot be undone.
